Why Give to Rosie's Place?

Your Gift Matters

Since our doors opened in 1974, our work has impacted the lives of more than half a million women. We know that there’s no single cause of poverty and homelessness and consequently, there’s no single cure-all. That’s why at Rosie’s Place, we offer a spectrum of services to our guests.

It’s not only what Rosie’s Place is that makes us extraordinary—it’s also what we’re not.

We’re not an institution—but a sanctuary. Not an intake center—but a community center. And we’re not just a shelter. We’re bustling classrooms, an encouraging friend, a helpful resource, a welcoming Dining Room, a hot shower, a food pantry and so much more. When poor and homeless women come to Rosie’s Place, they’re not numbers or forms to fill out. They are familiar names and faces. They are our guests.

Rosie’s Place is able to provide services in its own unique way largely because we are always true to our mission and to our values.  We do not accept any support from the city, state, or federal governments.  We rely solely on the generosity of our donors to allow us to serve women in the best and most appropriate way. Our work would not be possible without you.

Your Gift's Impact

Every donation to Rosie’s Place supports our vital programs and services. Here is how your gift directly impacts the lives of our guests. Last year, thanks to you:

  • We served 80,000 nutritionally balanced meals in our warm and cheery dining room.
  • Rosie’s Place Groceries allowed more than 1,900 women per month to take home 20 to 40 pounds of foods that their families prefer and enjoy.
  • The Women’s Education Center provided 314 women each semester with an opportunity to improve skills and increase self-sufficiency. We offered free ESOL, GED preparation and Literacy courses all within our familiar and supportive environment.
  • Rosie’s Place’s Advocates scheduled over 1,000 appointments with guests each month. Assistance included clothing, housing, medical services, educational and employment opportunities, legal advice, transportation, and emergency funds for eviction prevention and prescriptions.
  • More than 1,900 women participated in our art@rosiesplace program, which provided the opportunity for our guests to participate in a variety of classes and workshops, such as knitting, quilting and dance.
